There's a particular kind of loneliness that comes with figuring out your identity later in life. Not because anything is wrong with you, but because the world doesn't always make it easy to know yourself earlier. Society has a script, and a lot of us just followed it for a while.
If you're reading this and thinking "I only just started working this out" — welcome. You're in good company.
Late bloomer is not a bad word
A lot of women in this community use the term warmly and with humour. Many don't explore or name their attraction to other women until their 30s, 40s, 50s, or well beyond. There's no prize for figuring it out young, and no penalty for taking longer.
Life gets in the way. Expectations get in the way. Sometimes the words simply weren't there yet, or the safe spaces weren't either.
You haven't missed anything. You're just here now, and that counts.
It's okay to not have it all sorted
You don't need a label. You don't need a clear picture of what you want or where things are going. You don't need to have read all the right books or know all the right terminology.
This community holds space for people who are still figuring it out. That's part of what it's for.
Starting out can feel daunting, and that's normal
A lot of people who join this community describe feeling nervous at first. Not sure how to introduce themselves. Not sure if they'll fit in. Not sure if their experience is "sapphic enough."
It is. You are.
For many people, the easiest first step is simply being present in an online space before anything else. Reading other people's stories. Noticing what resonates. Letting yourself exist in a community of people who get it, without any pressure to perform or explain yourself.
