Our Picnics Are 18+. Here's Why, and Where to Find Family-Friendly Queer Events Instead.
We get this question fairly regularly. Someone discovers Girl Meet Girl, loves the sound of a free, sober, low-pressure sapphic picnic, and then wonders: can I bring my kids? Can my teenager come? Is there anything like this for queer families?
These are completely fair questions and they deserve a straight answer.
Girl Meet Girl events are 18 and over, always
It's about being clear on who we are and what we're designed for. This isn't something we're flexible on, and it's not about excluding anyone.
Girl Meet Girl exists within a broader ecosystem that includes Yoni Pleasure Palace, an adult wellness and pleasure brand. Our website sells adult (Yoni Pleasure Palace) products. The content across our platforms, including the conversations in our community spaces, is adult in nature. That context makes 18+ the only responsible setting for our events, full stop.
Beyond the brand context, there are real practical and legal reasons why an informal community group (like Girl Meet Girl) cannot and should not host events that include minors. Working With Children requirements, duty of care obligations, and insurance considerations all point in the same direction. The organisations that do this well are accredited, incorporated, insured, and specifically set up for it. We are not, and we're not trying to be.
What Girl Meet Girl actually is...
GMG exists for adult sapphic women, trans women, and non-binary folk to connect in person. The focus is on community, friendship, support, and genuine human connection.
We know "sapphic social event" can prompt assumptions. There's a wider cultural idea that queer social spaces are mostly about dating or hookups. For some communities that may be true, but it genuinely isn't what sapphic culture looks like statistically or socially, and it isn't what our community looks like in practice.
Sapphic women consistently show up to our picnics looking for belonging, friendship, and understanding. Sometimes that develops into more. Mostly it's just people who want to be around others who get it, without needing to explain themselves. That's what we're here for.

Local LGBTQIA+ community centres in most capital cities run a range of programming, some of which is family-inclusive. A quick search for your city's queer community centre will usually turn up a calendar worth exploring.

We're not the right fit for every situation, and that's okay

The queer community is big enough to hold all of it. Family events, teen spaces, adult spaces, and everything in between all have their place. We just happen to be one specific part of it.
